Santorini

Santorini is the Greek island for the iconic view. The caldera — the flooded volcanic crater — creates the cliffside white-and-blue villages (Oia, Fira, Imerovigli) that define Greek tourism. Sunsets in Oia are world-famous, and the island’s restaurant scene is refined without being as scene-driven as Mykonos.

Santorini is quieter than Mykonos. There’s no beach-club circuit, and the beaches (Red Beach, Perissa) are volcanic and different from the Cycladic norm. From India: Fly to Athens (ATH) via Dubai, Doha, or Istanbul — 10–14 hours total. Then connect to Mykonos or Santorini on a 40–50 minute flight, or drive to Porto Heli. Peak season (June–August) flights from Athens to the islands sell out 2–3 months ahead.

Winner: Mykonos for access (more flights, closer airport). Porto Heli for those who want to combine Athens with the coast.

Best Time to Visit

Insider tip: July and August bring the Meltemi winds — famous in Mykonos, and they can make beach days unpleasant. September is the sweet spot: warm sea, calm days, and the summer crowds have thinned.

Dining and Nightlife

Mykonos wins on nightlife — no contest. Beach clubs, cocktail bars in Chora, late-night tavernas. Santorini has good restaurants but a more sedate pace; the focus is on view-driven dining rather than scene. Porto Heli is mostly villa dining and local tavernas — no nightlife scene to speak of.
